Resin Prices WERE Up

The rumors were true. Plastic resin prices went up ... but then they came back down. Way down.

The plastic resins market for 2008 climbed steadily from January to June, realizing an approximated average price increase of 30 percent.

Over the second half of the year, prices steadily dropped by an approximated 54 percent.

Over the course of the year, 2008 realized a 40 percent overall decrease in plastic prices.

Bill Bowie, president of a Texas-based resin-purchasing consulting company says, “Barring some major global event, we may see a more stable resin pricing environment globally as economies start to rebuild themselves."

Overall, PE prices are projected to be 25 percent lower in 2009 vs 2008. PP has also dropped. PVC, PS, and PET continue to decline.

Yeah, I know it's funny to comment on my own articles ... but this was REALLY interesting to me. We HEARD about the price increases, but we did not hear about the decreases. Isn't it interesting to see what gets the buzz and what doesn't?

This is pretty big news though ... it went up 30 percent but then shot down 54 percent? Resulting in a net DECREASE of 40 percent. This IS news.
